Your PDFs never leave your computer: your browser does the work and the file does not travel to any server.

Why we do not upload your files

With most PDF services you pick a file, it gets uploaded to a server, processed there, and sent back. It works, but your document travels and passes through a machine that is not yours.

Here, your own browser does the work using code downloaded with the page. Your file is opened, transformed, and saved without leaving your device. That is why no account is needed, there is no waiting queue, and there is no server to send anything to.

It is designed so you can check it yourself: in your browser’s developer tools, on the network tab, no file should leave while you work.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is opened, processed and saved without leaving your device.

Does it cost anything?

Currently, all tools are free and no sign-up is required.

How large a file can I use?

It depends on your device's memory and speed: a modern computer handles large files; a phone works better with medium-sized ones.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Merging, compressing, rotating, converting between JPG and PDF, adding or removing a password and extracting pages are easy to use on a phone. Organizing pages, placing a signature and precise cropping work better on a larger screen.

Can I chain several tools?

Yes. In the app the result of one tool becomes the document for the next (for example compress, then OCR, then sign) and you can undo any step.

Things to know

Because everything happens on your device, the file sizes you can handle depend on its memory and speed. A very large PDF will run slower on an older phone than on a recent computer.

solopdfs will be free at launch. If that ever changes, we will say so here.
